Meet Our Team

Director & Instructor
Christine Rains
Christine earned a bachelor’s degree in Physics from Scripps College in Claremont, CA and a master’s degree in Geophysics from California State University, Northridge. She also has a bachelor’s degree in Music Performance from CSUN. She has been teaching elementary through college for many years, and currently teaches physics and astronomy at several local community colleges. She also spent several years working at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, CA, on the REASON instrument on the Europa Clipper spacecraft that is heading to Jupiter’s moon, Europa. She has been working with Quest in Science since the early 2000s teaching hands-on science to elementary school children throughout Los Angeles and became co-owner in 2011. In her free time, Christine is an avid gardener and cat mom.

Director
Debbie Walker
Debbie earned a Bachelor’s degree in Physics with a minor in Psychology from Scripps College in Claremont, CA. She spent five years teaching high school Advanced Placement Physics, Physics, and Chemistry, and then took several years off teaching to pursue a full-time position of mom to her three wonderful children and two dogs. Debbie resumed her career in 2010 by joining Quest in Science and
teaching hands-on science to elementary school children throughout Los Angeles. She believed so
strongly in Quest in Science that, in 2017, she became a co-owner, joining her long-time friend and colleague Christine.

Outside of the classroom, Debbie enjoys hiking, baking, and spending time with her family.

Instructor
Dannah DeVore
Dannah holds a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences from The Master’s University and a Master of Science in Immunology from Drexel University. She has experience teaching laboratory procedures at the collegiate level and spent six years teaching junior high and high school science. Her courses include physical science, biology, and anatomy and physiology.

Dannah is passionate about instilling a love of science in her students and is quick to share everything she knows about immunology and microbiology to whomever will listen. When she is not in the classroom, Dannah enjoys spending time with her family relaxing at the beach, hiking, exploring National Parks, and cheering on the Dodgers.

Instructor
Jackie Hanson
Jackie is a recent graduate from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and she is passionate about school and learning! In her free time, you’ll find her cooking or baking.

Classroom Aide
Erik Slattum
Erik loves to help young learners explore the world of science and discovery. When he is not helping out in the classroom, you can find him hiking, playing the bassoon, or exploring the LA area.

Administrative
Brianna Walker
Brianna brings over ten years of administrative experience to QIS. When not drafting an Excel sheet or wrestling with Adobe, she is exploring museums, reading old books, or whipping up gluten-free feasts.
